System Integration moves forward for optical domain processing

2DNeuralVision has met WP5 Milestone 7 on schedule, confirming steady progress in System Integration toward processing data in the optical domain and interfacing with the project’s reconfigurable technology.

Why it’s important

WP5 is where component level breakthroughs become end-to-end system capabilities. Advancing optical domain processing enables high bandwidth analogue computing at lower energy per operation, complementing the project’s wide spectrum image sensor and optical neural network (ONN). Delivering this milestone ensures the integration stream stays aligned with upstream specifications and downstream demonstrators.

Next on the roadmap

• Component to system characterisation: measure integrated performance and iterate toward stable operating envelopes.
• Demonstrator assembly: integrate modules for optical domain processing highlights in collaboration with partners.
• Evidence driven iteration: feed characterisation data back into calibration maps, crosstalk compensation, and balanced readout schemes to de-risk subsequent runs and maintain schedule.

These activities pave the way for the first integrated system showcases, demonstrating how photonic tensor acceleration can be embedded into standard ML workflows  and combine with wide spectrum imaging for robust perception under challenging conditions.
